It was Selena Gomez’s natural hair on full display that had people celebrating in an Instagram video that was supposed to be about her makeup. His makeup looked great, of course, but because the singer rarely shows off her untamed locks, it was a cause for significant celebration. Mainly because, as they say, this seemed like a kiss from the cook.

Gomez shared a selfie-carousel on May 17 because she got quarantine fatigue, like almost everyone else at one point or another. “I had an urge to put my make up on,” Gomez’s caption reads. “My papa noticed then proceeded to ask “why do you look like that?” He whistled as he walked away. So there’s that. Wearing all @rarebeauty ??.” Gomez’ cat-wing liner and peach lip is just another sneak peek of what Rare Beauty’s forthcoming beauty line entails (which hopefully holds its launch in Summer 2020), yet as amazing as the singer’s face looks, her hair stole the display.

If not because the first picture takes up significant space, then because it’s uninhibited. Gomez’s curls are spread all over the place (in the best way), without apparently any product, extensions, tools or tamers. Both are big and in charge and they have earned the respect of over 7 million followers, including the endorsement of celebrities Emily Ratajkowski and Lily Collins.

Gomez isn’t the only one in quarantine to let her hair have free reign. Gabrielle Union and Ariana Grande both showed off their natural curls on social media, thus proved that natural hair is kind of a moment to have. So even if your unchanged strands look, well, not as curly as those ladies’, there’s inspo in the brief stint of Kylie Jenner embracing her own short, straight hair.

During quarantine at-home hair dyes and trimmings may seem like the thing to do, but as many celebrities have demonstrated, it’s also a great time to simply work with what you have. Roll out of bed (or around it like Gomez does), let your hair do its thing, and record it for Instagram, of course.
