You have an option to make the next time you have $4 to spare: you should either get a latte—give or take a change—or pick up a celebrity-approved haircare line that just debuted at the People’s Choice Awards. Not a lot of a decision for you? You didn’t think so. And if you’re all set to add to the cart, you’ll be much happier as soon as you hear that the wallet-friendly formula was used on Mandy Moore’s hair at the 2020 People’s Choice Awards. Yup, the polished red-carpet waves, full of volume and brilliance, depended not on one but on five different drugstore items.
You may thank the renowned hair stylist and all-around hair genius Ashley Streicher for leading the way. The stylist first sprayed the Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Detangler + Air Dry Detangler on all the lengths of Moore’s wet hair, drying it just 90% after spraying. Then came the Garnier Fructis Full & Plush Root Amp Root Lifting Spray Mousse, which was sprayed straight onto Moore’s roots. This could be a commodity you already know and love—the lifting mousse is amazingly strong, and doubles down with volume and control instead of one or the other.
Mousse in place, Streicher finished drying Moore’s hair with a round brush, providing the base for the woke-up-like-this waves the star wore at the awards show. After a round of extensions, Streicher used the $3.50 Garnier Fructis Flat Iron Perfector Straightening Mist to secure the delicate locks of the star from two separate curling irons and a flat iron. Garnier Fructis Flexible Control Anti-Humidity Hairspray was then added to the curl or wave before it could cool.
Last but not least, the hair stylist worked another Garnier Fructis item onto Moore’s roots—this time using a sprit of the Texture Tease Dry Touch Finishing Spray, a texturizer and volumizer intended to leave the hair with its natural movement and body still in touch. (So there is no crunchiness or stickiness to be seen here.)
Overall, Moore’s hair look was made up of around $20 worth of beauty items. Not bad in someone’s book—and definitely a steal when it comes to celebrity hair. Shop the five Garnier Fructis goods used on the star by scrolling down, so you’ll be well on your way to recreating her relaxed style.
