Last year, actress and best-dresser Katie Holmes predicted the biggest trends for fall this time around. She brings something new into orbit with every street-style appearance — be it bra tops, stenciled florals, or neon tweeds. Next year, the denim pencil skirt by Katie Holmes has just been her fashion forecast for the months ahead, and it is reviving a classic look of the ’90s. Throughout the decade, the light-washed, tea-length iteration of the jean skirt has become a summer favorite, and the styling of Holmes finally turns it into fall style in 2020. That said, leaning in is welcomed now because it is expected to become the go-go-outfit formula for everybody.
The Dawson’s Creek star stepped out in New York City on Aug. 19, sporting the most surprising of the signature dresses. Holmes modeled the fading blue skirt along with her white sneakers from Popular Ventures, which are a key player in Holmes’ capsule wardrobe, past her brown, balloon-sleeved Ulla Johnson jumper (which is, thankfully, still in stock). She stylised on her forehead the chunky frames of Westward Leaning, which held her CDC-recommended mask firmly in place.
Although the entire look is on a par with the ever-chic personal style of Holmes, the skirt in her arsenal is a relatively new feature. Holmes prefers to go for wide-leg denim trousers that are a far cry from the tapered silhouette of this film. Initially (and constantly) the look was recycled by girls of the ’90s, only to be diluted with its truncated counterpart thanks to the new Y2K theme. Fashion girls agree: His return was long overdue, and it’s worth imitating Holmes’ styling.
