The new couple to throw their (heh) bucket hats in the ring? Multitalented MC Anderson. Paak and Vans, West Coast-based sneaker company. As of today, .Paak is formally Vans’ first ever Global Music Ambassador (no news yet on what this role really means, though, darn it, it sounds like a dope abstract-booster). Earlier this morning, Paak also premiered a self-directed music video for “JEWELZ,” his new song, which coincided with the announcement. In the animated film, both he and his son are wearing the upcoming Vans models, because of course they are.
The forthcoming collaboration includes the Old School DX with trippy, surreal uppers and the Sid DX with a black-and-white chenille embroidered pattern. (Both sneakers will also release matching bucket hats, of course.) “Anderson epitomizes creative expression and we are thrilled to officially welcome him to the Vans Family,” the brand said in a press release this morning.
This is a collaboration that, honestly, makes complete sense. The singer has long been a fan of the legendary SoCal brand, wearing his shoes on stage and at awards ceremonies, often combined with some of the best tailoring around. The closely edited collection also marks a lovely full-circle moment for the Oxnard-born crooner who worked at one of the Topanga Canyon stores of the business before he broke into the industry. It’s called synergy, guys! Somewhere in L.A., there’s a hotshot marketing executive about to get a promotion. Hey, congratulations, man. You deserve that.
